Here at Next2newgolf we buy a lot of golf equipment, from drivers, irons and putters to the bag you’ve had since 2010 that still has a scorecard in the pocket. But ultimately we’re a second hand golf shop, not a recycling centre, so we do draw the line somewhere. Everything we take in gets cleaned, graded and hopefully sold on to another golfer, meaning the club must only have cosmetic wear and nothing that affects performance.

If your gear falls into any of the categories below, we won't be able to offer you anything for it. None of this is meant to be harsh, it just saves postage fees and the back and forth.

Dents and cracks

As mentioned above we have to be able to resell the clubs we take in, any dents or cracks on the clubhead, no matter where they’re located, will negatively affect performance and means we will not be able to accept the club.

Counterfeit clubs

We do not buy any counterfeit or replica clubs under any circumstances and unfortunately there’s quite a few of them on the market. If you’re unsure whether yours is legit or not, check the serial number with the manufacturer or send us some detailed photos and we can check for you.

Missing clubs

A set of irons has to actually be a set, we cannot accept a 5-PW set without an 8 iron. There are exceptions to this however,  the smallest iron set we accept is a 6-PW so in the case of a 4-PW set missing a 5 iron, we can accept the remaining set as a 6-PW.

We don’t consider AW or GW missing clubs so a 5-SW set that contains 7 clubs is absolutely fine.

Any club that doesn’t match the exact model counts as a missing club, for example a 5-PW set of mavrik irons with a mavrik max 9 iron, even though it is similar, we cannot accept as it’s not a full set.

Missing weights & badges

Adjustable drivers and fairway woods must have all fitted weights present, with the wrench port fully intact. We also get sent irons with missing badges, in particular PING irons. We cannot accept clubs with either of these issues as they help maintain the clubs proper weighting and balance, so anything missing would ultimately affect performance.

Bent putter

We get a lot of putters sent to us that don’t sit square at address, whether it’s due to a bent shaft or the lie angle being knocked off. Either way, if it doesn’t sit flush to the ground the way it should, we can’t take it, as it’s not a repair we carry out.

Clubs we can’t resell

Unfortunately, some clubs just don't have enough resale value. Very old clubs such as blades, persimmon woods and even clubs from relatively unknown brands fall here, in some of these cases, the postage fees will cost more than the club itself. It’s nothing against the clubs, but we only buy what we can realistically sell on.

Damage to the shaft

Anything bent, snapped or splintered is a no. Steel shafts with rust pitting eating into the metal won't pass, and graphite that's worn past the paintwork and into the graphite itself is the same story. A shaft has to be safe and sound to swing.

Mismatching shafts

All clubs in a full set of irons must have matching shafts, this means the same brand, model, weight flex and length. Any iron set that doesn’t have matching shafts we treat the same as missing clubs and we cannot accept them.

Loose head & poor reshafts

If the head is coming away from the shaft, or a previous reshaft has been done poorly, we can’t take the club. Common signs are a head that twists or pulls at the hosel, a shaft that isn’t seated all the way into the hosel, or mismatching ferrules with glue or epoxy left around the joint. A clean, properly fitted reshaft is fine, but a botched one isn’t safe to sell on. It’s worth noting that loose ferrules are completely different to a loose clubhead as they’re easily fixed.

Rattling

If a clubhead rattles, it’s usually just a small piece of dried glue that’s come loose inside the shaft. It's an easy fix once the grip is removed, but it’s not something we’ll carry out on your behalf, so a rattling club will still count against the offer.

A note on grips

A split or worn grip won't stop us buying a club. We'll still take it, but the offer will be a little lower to cover regripping it before resale. Nothing to worry about, most used clubs get regripped anyway.

Not sure?

If you’re unsure whether your clubs fall into any of the categories above, just send a few clear photos to our trade-in WhatsApp and we’ll happily take a look.

Please make the photos as detailed as possible. We inspect every club thoroughly when it arrives, so if damage or wear has been hidden or missed, we may need to revise the agreed valuation.
