Choosing your first driver, or upgrading from a basic starter set, is one of the most impactful equipment decisions you can make as a golfer. The right driver can add distance, reduce wayward shots and make the game more enjoyable from the very first round.
For beginner golfers, forgiveness is the single most important factor. A forgiving driver is designed to minimise the distance and direction lost when you don't strike the middle of the face, helping you hit more fairways and maintain confidence off the tee. Features such as larger clubheads, perimeter weighting and high-MOI designs all contribute to greater forgiveness and more consistent results.
The good news is that many of the most forgiving golf drivers ever made are now available on the pre-owned market for a fraction of their original retail price. Premium models from brands such as TaylorMade, Ping, Callaway and Cobra were designed to maximise forgiveness and launch, and because driver technology tends to evolve gradually, these clubs still perform exceptionally well today.
When choosing a beginner driver, we generally recommend a loft of 10.5° or higher to help get the ball airborne more easily, along with a Regular flex shaft for golfers still developing their swing speed. Golfers who struggle with a slice may also benefit from a draw-biased driver, which can help reduce left-to-right curvature.
At Next2New Golf, every second-hand driver is carefully inspected, graded and accurately described, allowing you to shop with confidence and find the right club for your game.
